I am very out of my element this semester. It is going to be a challenging semester for me, but I'm pretty excited about it. I am loving all of my professors and feel myself engaging in topics I have never found much interest in. Even politics! (I HATE politics, generally). My mind is being opened to knew ideas and knew ways of thinking. In each of my classes, except Calculus, we have incredible discussions. It amazing the difference you see between lower and higher level classes. These discussions are so engaging. I love to hear what others have to say and to also have the opportunity to speak my own opinion. When a class can talk for an hour and a half, starting with a few simple questions from the professor, you know its a good class!
My English class is probably going to be the hardest. I get involved in the discussions, but I have a really hard time pulling out symbolism from text. I don't recognize or think of it like literature people do. I've never really read literature except for the required books in high school. Once somebody mentions it, I can discuss it with others, express my opinions and I understand it. But that doesn't help me personally. I'll definitely be having a tutor help me write my essays. I've never had a tutor before - I've never needed one.
It's exciting for me to feel such a challenge. Knowing the value of my education and the work that I put into it; the loss of sleep, expensive tuition & books, and time spent studying is very much worth it!
